about claudia.

Claudia Cauterucci, LPC, NCC, CGP

I hold an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and have practiced outpatient psychotherapy with adults, couples, and groups since 1999. I formed my own private practice, Maria Claudia Cauterucci and Associates, in 2005. In 2010, I also became one of four partners at Alexander Psychotherapy Associates. My office is located in the heart of Washington, D.C.
I was originally trained in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory, which predicates the understanding of the patient’s unconscious as the foundational underpinning for improvement.  With time and experience, I have added and combined other modalities to my approach that are insight-oriented, interpersonal, mindfulness-based, behavioral, and neuroscientific. I see myself as a partner to my clients in their healing and self-growth, and my style is interactive and results-oriented. I work in both English and Spanish.
I specialize specifically in the obstacles, transitions, and beliefs related to personal identity based on group, family, culture, sexuality, and coming of age. I teach and emphasize the process of SELF-INQUIRY with the ultimate goals of SELF ACCEPTANCE and SELF MASTERY, the pinnacles of free and joyful living.

In addition, I am a trauma-informed psychotherapist, who works foundationally from a HOLISTIC approach combining mind, body, spirit, and environment. The bedrock of my work with trauma survivors is a neuroscientific finding called “neuroplasticity”, which posits that the brain has the continuous capacity to grow and improve. I work from the vantage point that trauma can be managed, understood, and reshaped into an experience that empowers and generates optimum growth. My extensive training in trauma incorporates the work of Bessel van Der Kolk, Daniel Siegel, and the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine.

Group work is one of my favorite modalities, second only to one-on-one sessions.  I have over 20 years of experience running groups ranging from a Men’s Only group, a Gay Men’s group, two Mixed Gender and Sexuality groups, and her very own Dynamic Meditation groups.

dynamic meditation (DM). In 2010, I created an innovative workshop series called “Dynamic Meditation” that integrates mindfulness, neuroscientific theory, and meditation into a practical and portable coping skill designed to be used in all settings, both clinical and non-clinical.

Grounded in 20 years of experience in Mindfulness Therapy and neuroscience as well as the dedicated personal practice of various forms of meditation, the workshop series applies the Dynamic Meditation coping skill to themes such as: Love and Relationships, Body and Well-being, Money and Abundance, Family and Intimacy and other unique topics. As an extension to the series, I run meditation workshops for teens entitled Feeling Free.

holistic health. In 2005, I became certified as a Holistic Health Counselor from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and in 2015, I became the owner and health coach of BM2DC, a holistic nutritional program that emphasized the whole individual, with a particular focus on internal obstacles to healthier living. BM2DC explored the symptoms of health issues and physical ailments as unconscious and unprocessed signs of emotional resistance and assisted the individual in identifying and overcoming them.

anxiety talks.  In 2018, I fused my love of neuroscience with my studies of epigenetics, neuroimmunology, and quantum physics, to address holistically the effects of anxiety and stress on the mind and body. Following my mission to translate the concepts of holistic well-being and self-reflection into practical, everyday use, I designed a series of talks aimed at self-healing in the face of anxiety. As a part of this series, I provided talks for teens entitled Teens Hack Their Anxiety Programs, where I provided practical knowledge and tools to address their daily anxiety.
